Specialized SX Trail (2007)

Conception

It seemed like a good idea at the time.

Patrick and myself were at Evans Gatwick and saw some limited edition orange Marzocchi forks. We both thought they would look rather good on the Cove. However, after discussion with the staff, it was agreed that the forks were inappropriate for the Cove. Still wanting to get the forks though, an idea of building up a new bike based on those forks was formed. [Hindsight shows that was an irrational idea; but there we go.]

So it was desided that what was needed was a freeride. We had at that time a XC (Cove Handjob, XC Race (Yeti ASR-sl), DJ (Yeti DJ) so what was missing was a FR. Simple logic eh!

The Specialialized SX Trail was, and still is, very popular then and Evans stocked the frame. This looked the perfect base to build up a very decent bike. The second irrational decision was to go for broke on components: Fox 36, Deemax wheels and Moto V2 brakes.

The completed bike did look stunning. Unfortunately it gets very little use.

Below is a list of components as the bike was originally built. Evans didn't have Saint cranks in stock so these were sourced from Cycle Surgery (around the corner from where I work). Wasn't really sure what pedals to put on but saw some Specialized Lo Pro in Beyond Mountain and knew they would be perfect.
