Halo Track Hubs and Aerorage Rims
Built by Andy Duffin of AD Cycles February 2009
I chose Halo for the wheels for a number of reasons:
- Quality/price: Halo make good quality components at a competitive price.
Their powder coat finish is very smart.
- Colour: Halo offer a number of different colours. I didn't want silver
wheels as I thought that would make the bike look like a copy of a '70s/'80s
Colnago.
- Availability: I knew that I could easily get Halo from AD Cycles. As
things turned out, Halo didn't have any wheelsets in stock so Andy ordered
the components and made the wheels.
- Previous experience: Andy built a pair of Halo wheels for the Yeti DJ
using white SAS rims and gold Spin Doctor hubs. I am very pleased with these
wheels.
- Configuration: The Halo rear track hubs are available in many configurations.
In the end I chose double fixed as the fixed/freewheel hub I had intended to buy
wasn't available. This isn't a problem for riding single-speed as a
lock-ring isn't really needed.
- Design: As reviews point out, Halo wheels are designed for real-world
use. This bike will be ridden mainly on roads so a dedicated track wheelset
would be inappropriate. No nonsense 32H with stainless steel spokes.
