Italian Guissepe Sarroni was one of the most successful riders of the late 1970's and 1980's, a time when race bike frames were made of steel and alloy and carbon fibre were still materials of the future. Among his long list of wins are races such as the World Road Championship, Milan San Remo, the Tour of Lombardy, the Championship of Zurich, the Giro D'Italia on 2 occasions along with 24 stages and winner of the Giro points classification 4 times. Throughout his brilliant career, Saronni rode Colnago race bikes and most of them were finished in the distinctive blood red colour now recognised simply as "Saronni red".
