The frame is a 2008 Colnago Master Pista. The colour is Saronni red, named after Giuseppe Saronni who won the World Championship at Goodwood, England in 1982. He was riding a blood red Colnago Master.
I purchased the frame from GB Cycles of Croydon
21st February 2009.
I had taken the S-Works Tarmac's rear Dalkiia wheel in to have the spacing on
the axle modified to allow the recently fitted Campagnolo cassette to have
adequate frame clearance. I casually asked if they had any track frames suitable
for road use. I had seen a very nice aluminium
Cinelli Vigorelli at the Cycle
Show Earls Court in 2008, and was planning to build a fixed wheel machine
sometime. I was rather surprised when the Colnago was extracted from the window
display and lo and behold, a track frame designed for road use. Brake mounts
front and rear, cable guides on the top tube and water bottle mounts on the down
tube.
The frame was placed in my hands and it was difficult to let go. The frame was
in the January 2009 sale with a significant reduction from the original price. A further
discount was agreed and that, was that. The frameset consisted frame and forks. GB provided a Campagnolo seat post
bolt. They also supplied and fitted a Campagnolo Record 1" threadless headset.
Features:
Note the rear brake cable guide and Campagnolo SP-RE104 seat post bolt.
Note the rear facing track ends. The Halo track hub has fixed gear threads on both sides. A freewheel is fitted on
one side without a lock ring.
Campagnolo Record 1" threadless headset.
